Friends Journal Page

Good morning everyone, I've a journal page to share with you today.

My Friend is the theme for the Try It On Tuesday challenge and Colour My World is the theme for the Art Journal Journey challenge. My favourite colour is green and my favourite colour combination is green and pink although there is more pink than green on my page.

I coloured the background with Distress Oxides and stamped with Archival ink. I used a stencil for the leaves. The stamps that I used are Paperartsy, Seth Apter and Kaisercraft.

I found some lovely napkins at Ally Pally last weekend, one of them had pink roses on so I cut out some roses and glued them to the page.

I added some Tim Holtz images and stamped some words with Art Impressions and Dyan Reaveley/Dylusions stamps.

The words are
A friend is someone who knows the song in your heart and can sing it back to you when you have forgotten the words.

Girlfriends make the best accessories.

Thank you for visiting me, have a lovely day. xxx Hazel.

AJJ Challenge - If Music Be The Food Of Love

I was so thrilled and excited when Valerie and Susi got in touch with me a few months ago asking me to host the February Art Journal Journey Challenge. As it's February I thought that the theme should something about love so in the end I decided  to use part of the first line from Shakespeare's Twelfth Night – “If Music Be The Food Of Love”, there are lots of possibilities with this theme, it doesn’t have to be about love and romance, it could just be about music or food or anything that you love. I hope that you will take part in the challenge.

Here is my page.

I started by covering the page with tissue wrap and I used a brayer to cover it with acrylic paint. I used the following stamps on the background.
Kaisercraft - music and edge.
Dina Wakley - large hearts.
PaperArtsy - dots.
Clearly Impressed - Love.
Judikins - small music notes.

The image is a Gecko Galz digi stamp that I printed and coloured in with pencils. I cut it out and glued it to the page. I was quite pleased with the page but wished I hadn't stamped the small hearts as I think it looks a bit cluttered.

Thank you for looking. This is my second post of the day - just one more to go.

SPA Challenge - November Rain

November Rain is this weeks Sunday Postcard Art challenge. I wasn't quite sure what to do for this one so I searched the web for quotes, there wasn't many but I found a Ray Bradbury one that I decided to use.

"They read the long afternoon through, while the cold November rain fell from the sky upon the quiet house".

I used Kaisercraft papers for the background and the house, I used pitt pens to give the house a bit of colour. I dry brushed the rain with a fan brush and blue and white acrylic paint and a PaperArtsy metalic glaze, unfortunately you can't see the metalic glaze from the photo.
I used an Invoke Arts stamp for the house.

Flip Lid Mini Photo Box

Its the first of the month so it's time for the latest Mixed Media Mojo challenge, the theme is Fall and the twist is metal. For my DT piece I've made a boxed mini album. I take a lot of photos of the country park where I walk the dogs so the album is going to be used for these photos.

This is the decorated lid.

I used black chip board to make the box.

The next two photos show the opened box with the pockets and mini album.

This is the mini album that fits inside the box.

I covered the box with PaperArtsy decorated paper.

For the decoration I cut out some extra leaves from the paper and glued them to the lid. I also added some metal corners, burlap, die cut leaves, metal leaves and flowers, red beads and wire. I also die cut and embossed some leaves out of metal and coloured them with Stazon.

A close up of the decoration.

I covered the inside of the box with Kaisercraft paper.

The inside showing the mini album.

I have some journalling cards and tags to put in the pockets, I shall do that when I start adding the photos.

I hope you can visit Mixed Media Mojo to take a look at the rest of the teams fabulous samples.

Thank you for looking.

Back To School/Book Pages

It's time for another challenge at Mixed Media Mojo, the theme is Back To School/Book Pages.

For my DT piece I've decorated the cover on an exercise book.

I covered the front and back with some school themed scrapbook papers from my stash.

I adhered a piece of paper from a shorthand pad and stamped the splats and rings [Kaisercraft stamp].

I stamped some gold stars [Stampers Anonymous] and I found some school theme labels and stickers in my stash so I glued some to the cover and did some doodling on the shorthand page.

Please pop over the Mixed Media Mojo challenge site to see the fabulous work that the rest of the DT have made.

Thank you for looking.

Butterfly Journal Page

Last week my friend Alison came to play, we had a great day playing with our Gelli Plates and we both ended up with loads of lovely prints.

I've used one of them on my journal page.

My print wasn't big enough to cover the pages so I painted the edge of the pages with Acrylic paint, tore round the print and glued it to the pages. I used Kaisercraft, Inkadinkado and Stampendous stamps on the background and I used Versamagic chalk ink. The butterflies [Stampendous stamp and cutting dies] were stamped onto cream card, cut out and glued to the pages with Mod Podge, I also spread the Mod Podge over the butterflies so that I could colour them with Faber Castell Pitt artist pens. Spreading the glue over the images and letting it dry meant that I could colour with the pens and spread the ink with my finger before it dried. I uesd an Artistic Stamper stamp for the quote.

I'm sharing my pages with Art Journal Journey their theme this month is Time.

Thank you for looking.

Spotty Flower Journal Page For Mixed Media Mojo

Today it's my turn to post a project for Mixed Media Mojo.  Why not visit the blog to see all the lovely inspiration and there's still time to enter the Christmas in July challenge.

I'd like to enter my journal page in the Craft Stamper Take It Make It Challenge - Anything Goes using a stamp.

For the background I built up layers with acrylic paint, stencilling and stamping.

I stamped the flower onto spotty paper and cut it out, I also punched out circles from the same paper and stamped the words onto scrap card. After adhering the flower etc. I gave the whole page a coat of matte medium. I coloured the flower and circles with Faber Castell Pitt pens, because I'd given the page a coat of matte medium it gave me time to use the pens and spread the colour with my finger.

The stamps I used are
PaperArtsy for the flower, words and the background.
Indigo Blu for the white circles on the background.
Impression Obsession for the lines on the background.
The dotty paper is by Kaisercraft.

Mixed Media Wednesday

Today it's my turn to share a project for Mixed Media Wednesday over at Mixed Media Mojo.

I covered a 7"x 5" canvas board with dictionary paper, when the glue was dry I stuck down pieces of very sticky masking tape and pulled it of, this removed some of the paper leaving some of the underside, that had stuck to the glue, showing, I also scraped bits of with my finger nail.

I gave the page a wash with watered down acrylic paint and put other colours on with my finger.

I stamped some crackle and flowers, then I splattered some white acrylic paint over it.

The flower and sentiment were stamped and embossed. I used the stem of the flower to go round the edge, The butterflies were stamped onto previously coloured card and cut out, I painted a glossy accents over them.

Items used:
DecoArt - acrylic paint.
Kaiserkraft - crackle stamp.
Visible Image - flower and sentiment stamp.
Innovative Stamp Creations - butterflies.
Archival Ink - black and French ultramarine.

The Documented Life - Week 2

I've just finished my week 2 for the Documented Life, this week we had to use gesso on the pages.

I started by painting the blank pages with gesso and then I adhered my calender page.
I use a baby wipe to apply the DecoArt acrylic paint.
I used an Impression Obsession stamp and rose madder Archival ink on the background and then stamped some black crackle with a Kaisercraft stamp.
The Woodware clematis was stamped onto paper and coloured with Inktense pencils and a waterbrush, I cut them out and adhered them to the pages.
The dates and lines on the calender had disappeared under the paint so penned them in.
I stencelled the dragonflies with gesso and let them dry then I coloured them with Inktense pencils and a waterbrush then I went round the edges with a black watercolour pencil and waterbrush.
The last thing I did was to write the Mary Shelly quote.

This is a closer look at the dragonflies.

Harlequin Tag and Good News

Good morning all, a grim start to the weekend here, I hope it's better where you are.

Before I show you my tag I'd like to share some fabulous news that I received last weekend, I'm now on the Altered Eclectics Design Team - I'm so excited and will do my first project for them in December.

The tag I'm sharing with you was made earlier in the year.

I used one of my mono prints for the background and used a Stampers Anonymous stamp and distress ink to stamp the large harlequins. I used a mask and modelling paste for the small harlequins and coloured them with distress ink. I also used a Kaisercraft stamp on the background. The orange flower is of some handmade paper from my stash and I pust some tissue tape at the bottom of the tag. I used a Judikins stamp for the main image and it was stamped onto some coloured card and cut out. I think the Art stamp is Lost Coast Designs stamp.

Halloween Postcard

Good morning all and a big welcome to my new follower Carol, it's lovely to have you with me.

Halloween is the latest challenge at the Speed Craft Challenge, they have changed one of their rules, you now have 15 minutes to make your project instead of 10 minutes. It's nice to have a bit longer but I still didn't finish in the time.

Here is a photo of the items I used.

This is as far as I got in the 15 minutes - I used the stop watch on my phone.

I sponged distress ink on to the card and splattered with water, after drying it I stamped and embossed the skull and sentiment. I made a mask to cover the skull and stamped some crackle then I took some colour of the skull with a water brush, then I edged the card with distress ink.

After the 15 minutes was up I stamped some bats and cats.

Stamps used.
Stampers Anonymous - skull and sentiment.
Kaisercraft - crackle.
Cherry Pie Art Stamps - cats and bats.

Halloween Time

I wasn't going to do anything for Halloween this year but I didn't get my second project finished at the Andy Skinner workshop that I went to a couple of weeks ago.  I brought home the painted foam board and clock from the workshop and found some plastic skulls in my stash so it ended up being a Halloween project.

I'd like to enter my project in the following challenges.

Mixed Media Mojo - Halloween/Fall with fabric, I used hessian for the background.
Rhedd's Creative Spirit - Halloween or Not.
Altered Eclectics - Anything Goes.

Here are a couple of photos of the skull.

I used mostly DecoArt products.
The clock was covered with Crackle Paste.
I used Modeling Paste on the edges to give some texture.
The round bit at the top is the center of the clock, I painted it with acrylic paint and covered it with Crackle Glaze.
I used a Kaisercraft crackle stamp on the background.
Everything was painted with acrylic paints and I used some olive bronze and emerald Treasure Gold and Treasure Brass on the raised areas and also on the skulls.

Here is a closer look at Mr Poe.

I did an image transfer with a Gecko Galz image and stamped some script. The edges were done the same way as the skull section.
I painted some hessian with gesso and adhered all the bits to it.
I added some die cut ravens [Sizzix], the clock is a Sizzix die as well.

Black and White Deco Pages

Here are the latest deco pages that I've made for the KCUK deco swap, this time the pages are for Anne C. and her theme is Black and White.

I love this Crafty Impressions Doo Lally Pip stamp set, they're not the usual stamps that I go for, but there's something about juggling blackbirds that appeals to me.
I used a mono print for the background and stamped a kaisercraft alphabet stamp with white gesso over it.
The main image, sentiment and chipboard bird were stamped with black soot distress ink and embossed with clear embossing powder.

I'd like to enter this page into the That's Crafty Challenge - Birds

For the next Page I used PaperArtsy/Lynne Perella Stamps.

I used a Kaisercraft stamp to stamp the crackle onto the white background.
I added some striped ribbon, tissue tape and a Sizzix die cut.
The main image was stamped using black soot distress ink and clear embossing powder.

Mono Printing With An Acrylic Block

The theme for the March challenge at the Craft Stampers Take It Make It Challenge is to make some mono prints using acrylic paint on acrylic blocks. Trish Latimer has a project in the April Craft Stamper where she has a tutorial on doing this technique.

This is a tag that I made.

I used a mixture of DecoArt and Fresco Finish acrylic paints. The background stamp is by Kaisercraft, I don't know who made the stamp on the edge.
I used the Sizzix Tattered Florals die for the flower and put a piece of corrugated card behind it so that the flower wouldn't disappear into the background. I also put some Stickles onto the petals. I added the PaperArtsy sentiment.

Bird Tag

I'd like to share with you today the second tag that I made for the Paperplay January tag swap.

I used one of my Gelli prints for the background and stamped the flying birds [Stampers Anonymous], the bird flourish [Chocolate Baroque] and the birdcage [Kaisercraft]. I put black soot Distress ink round the edge. I used the Sizzix Alterations bird branch die for the die cut, I coloured it with walnut stain and then cut the bird of the branch, this was so that I could stand the branch upright, I covered the bird with orange stickles and adhered it to the tag, then I added the sentiment [Creative Expressions].
