Altered Art Journal Cover

It’s February already and time for the first Altered Eclectics challenge of the year. As always the theme is Anything Goes as long as it’s mixed media or altered art, no paper crafts allowed.

My DT project is an altered art journal cover.

This is the cover that I’ve altered. I started by removing the chipboard pieces to give me a flat surface to work on.

I found some embossed and die cut card and some wooden pieces that I thought I would use.

I painted the cover with gesso and adhered some of the embossed and die cut card, I decided to use the wooden butterflies, when all the glue was dried I gave it another coat of gesso and then painted it with Decoart acrylic paints, I also used gelatos to add colour.

I dry brushed the cover with some white acrylic paint and added splatters, then I added some metalic wax, the wax doesn't show up on the photo.

This photo shows the front and back, I used a napkin to decorate the back, I think I prefer it to the front.

Thank you for dropping by and enjoy your day, I'm off to the haidressers soon - I'd rather stay in my warm house though. xxx

Altered Tin Tray

I can't believe it's November already - where has this year gone. It's time for a new challenge at Altered Eclectics, as always the theme is Anything Goes as long as it's Altered Art/Mixed Media, no cards or ATCs are allowed.

I've altered an old metal tin for my DT piece.

I gave the tray a coat of Fresco Finish paint.

I collaged different patterned papers, tissue paper and napkins, then I used some stencils with acrylic paint. I cut out the butterflies from Crafty Individuals collage sheets.

Thank you for dropping by to take a look, have a lovely day. xxx Hazel.

Altered iPad Cover

Hi everyone, it's been over a year since I've made anything for the Altered Eclectics Design Team, but now I'm back and for my first project I thought I would give my tatty old iPad cover a new look.

This is my iPad in it's altered case and below it is the old tatty case.

The first thing I did was to glue together all the bits that were falling apart.

I gave it a coat of white gesso and covered it with some lovely Imagination Crafts rice paper.

I added layers of acrylic paint, stencilling and stamping.

I used Stampendous stamps and dies for the butterflies. The butterflies were glued to the cover and I gave it a coat of matte medium, when this had dried I coloured the butterflies with Pitt pens and added some word stickers.

Thank you for dropping by, why not pop over to the Altered Eclectics blog to take a look at the lovely projects that the rest of the design team have made.

Decorated Box

Good morning everyone, a snowy start to the weekend - thankfully not too much.

My latest project for the Craft Barn design team is a box that I've painted with Imagination Crafts Starlight paints, you can see how I did it here.

Thank you for dropping by to take a look, have a lovely weekend whatever you're doing - I'm of to Stamparama tomorrow, I just hope I can shift the stinky cold that I've got.

Altered Box

Good morning everyone, I hope you are having a lovely weekend. It's the first of the month and time for a new challenge at Altered Eclectics, as always the theme is Anything Goes as long as it's Altered Art/Mixed Media, no cards please.

For my DT piece I've decorated a round box.

I'm entering my box into the Try It On Tuesday challenge - Vintage Photo.

This is the box I used.

I painted it with white gesso and added some lace round the side. I also added lace to the side of the lid.

I coloured the box with gelatos and added some tissue wrap and cut out butterflies.

I stencilled some modelling paste to the lid and dry brushed it with white paint, I also dry brushed some pink flowers.

The next thing I did was to spray everything with Glimmer Mist.

This is a close up to show the glimmer.

I glued the flowers, twisted wire, a photo booth image of a couple, a piece of frayed material, charm and some micro baeds to the top. I also added flowers, micro beads and wire to the sides.

A close up of the flowers.

The finished box.

Please take a trip to Altered Eclectics to see the lovely inspirational pieces that my talented teamies have made.

Thank you for visiting.

Altered Greeting Card Book

It's April 1st already and time for a new Altered Eclectics challenge, as always the theme is Anything Goes as long as it's altered/mixed media, no cards allowed.

For my DT piece I've altered a Greeting Card Book.

These cute pups were on the front of the book.

The book has pockets on the inside to store greeting cards.

Inside the book were these adorable cards.

I covered the covers with paper, then I painted them with gesso and acrylic paint.

I stamped and stencilled the covers.

I stamped the PaperArtsy poppies on to paper and cut them out, I glued them to the covers and painted them with matt medium. I coloured the poppies with Faber-Castell Pitt Pens and blended them with my finger. I doodled round the edges with a black pen. I haven't done the inside of the book yet but I shall cover parts with paper and do some stamping.

I hope you will be able to join in with the challenge, my teamies have made some wonderful samples and they would love you all to take a look.

Thank you for looking, have a lovely day.

Decorated Candle Holder

Another month has flown by and it's time to share my latest DT post for the latest Altered Eclectics challenge. As always the theme for the challenge is Anything Goes as long as it's mixed media/altered art.

A few years ago I bought a wooden candle holder blank and decided it was time to do something with it. I must admit it's not the colour that I started out to do, it was going to be a peachy colour but ended up being mauve.

First I gave the candle holder a coat of gesso.

I adhered some die cuts and lace that had wooden beads attached.

I added some flowers and metal butterflies and gave them a coat of gesso.

The next steps I haven't got any photos for but I painted the holder with green paint and added a crackle glaze, then I painted it with a cream coloured paint. You can see some of the crackles in the photo.

This is where the holder changes colour. I dry brushed the holder with a mauve paint.

Then I sprayed it with a mauve mica spray.

I then used my finger to spread some pewter gilding wax. The photos below show different areas of the finished candle holder.

I used the following sprays and paints.
Fresco Finish - Granny Smith, Vanilla, wisteria.
Fresco Crackle Glaze.
Tattered Angels Mica Spray.

The rest of my Altered Eclectics team mates have made some wonderful inspirational pieces, so why not take a look.

Thank you for looking.

First DT Post For The Mixed Media Mojo Challenge

I'm very excited to have been chosen to join the Mixed Media Mojo Challenge Design Team - this is my first project for them.

The theme for the April challenge is Recycle/Upcycle and the twist is Flower.

I've made a vase using a plastic Options jar.

I started by glueing lace, die cut leaves and flowers to the jar.

Then I went back to the days of when I use to decorate cakes and used a piping bag with modelling paste to pipe some squiggly lines and dots. I did try to use a stencil but it was difficult because of the shape of the jar.

I painted the jar with white gesso.

I then painted the jar with DecoArt acrylic paint.

I made a wash of hansa yellow paint and let it run down the from the top of the jar, when this was dry I did the same with paynes grey.

Here is a close up of the runs.

This is the finished vase with some daffodils. I had hoped the buds would have opened by the time the photo was taken, but it was not to be. The only thing I don't like about the vase are the roses that I put on - I should have left it plain.

The rest of the DT have made some fabulous projects so why not pop over to the MMMC to take a look,
