Decorated Candle Holder

Another month has flown by and it's time to share my latest DT post for the latest Altered Eclectics challenge. As always the theme for the challenge is Anything Goes as long as it's mixed media/altered art.

A few years ago I bought a wooden candle holder blank and decided it was time to do something with it. I must admit it's not the colour that I started out to do, it was going to be a peachy colour but ended up being mauve.

First I gave the candle holder a coat of gesso.

I adhered some die cuts and lace that had wooden beads attached.

I added some flowers and metal butterflies and gave them a coat of gesso.

The next steps I haven't got any photos for but I painted the holder with green paint and added a crackle glaze, then I painted it with a cream coloured paint. You can see some of the crackles in the photo.

This is where the holder changes colour. I dry brushed the holder with a mauve paint.

Then I sprayed it with a mauve mica spray.

I then used my finger to spread some pewter gilding wax. The photos below show different areas of the finished candle holder.

I used the following sprays and paints.
Fresco Finish - Granny Smith, Vanilla, wisteria.
Fresco Crackle Glaze.
Tattered Angels Mica Spray.

The rest of my Altered Eclectics team mates have made some wonderful inspirational pieces, so why not take a look.

Thank you for looking.

Owls

Owls is this weeks theme at the Sunday Postcard Art challenge.

I drew some leaves onto a Gelli print background and coloured them. I stamped the three owls [Tattered Angels stamp] onto patterned paper and cut them out. I glued them to the postcard and gave them a bit of colour. The What A Hoot is a Hero Arts Stamp.

Thank you for looking.

Creative Expressions Texture/The Secret Garden

This is a canvas that I've made for the Creative Expressions 2012 Design Team call. They want to see some texture of some sort on the piece of work, I used texture embossing paste.

I started by spraying the canvas with various colours of Dylusions inks, when it had dried I stamped some crackle with a Tattered Angels stamp. I have an old copy of the Secret Garden that I found in a charity shop and tore out a page and adhered it to the canvas, then I added the texture with a Crafters Workshop stencil and some Dreamweaver Crackle Embossing Paste. When this had dried I lightly coloured it with picked raspberry Distress ink and wiped off the excess with a damp cloth.
I stamped the image [Paper Inspirations] onto card that I'd coloured with different coloured inks and lightened the face with water then I adhered it to the canvas.
I die cut the grungeboard branch with the Bird Branch Sizziz/Alterations die. This was coloured with Distress stains and felt tips. I coloured some card with wild honey, worn lipstick and peeled paint Distress ink, then I die cut the roses and leaves with the Sizzix/Alterations Tattered Pinecone die. I made the roses and adhered them to the canvas.
The butterflies [La Blanche] were stamped onto coloured card, cut out and adhered to the canvas.
I then found the words that I wanted in the book and tore them out and adhered them to the canvas.

This is a closer look at the embossing paste.

I'm entering my canvas in the
Simon Says Stamp And Show No Rules Challenge.

Distressed Summer/Nature ATCs

Distressed Summer/Nature is the theme for the July Paperplay group ATC swap.
The backgrounds for my ATCs were inked up ages ago and I can't remember what inks and colours I used.

Dragonfly ATC. I stamped ferns [unknown] on the ATC and stamped flowers [ Stamp Bug] with acrylic paint, I also used a crackle stamp [Tattered Angels]. I used a Dreamweaver dragonfly brass stencil with some Dreamweaver Crackle Embossing Paste. I was going to put some colour on the dragonfly when it dried, but decided to leave it as I liked the way the wet paste had soaked up some of the background colour. I edged the ATC with stormy sky Distress ink.
Fern ATC. This was made exactly the same way as the dragonfly except that I used a Crafters Workshop fern stencil and I added a small leaf charm.

Bumble Bee ATC. I stamped the small bee [Stampotique] onto the ATC and scraped some acrylic paint over it. When the paint was dry I stamped the sequin waste [The Artistic Stamper] with spiced marmalade Distress ink. The large Bee [Stampotique] was stamped onto white card and coloured with the spiced marmalade. After I cut it out I added Stickles to the wings and adhered it to the ATC.

Rose ATC. The background stamps that I used are by The Stamp Bug and Tattered Angels. I used a Dreamweaver Rose brass stencil with the Dreamweaver Crackle Embossing Paste. I embellished it with a Tando Creative mini butterfly embossed with Frantage shabby pink embossing enamel.

I'm entering my ATCs in the Simon Says Stamp and Show No Rules challenge.

Fairy Domino Book and Pendant.

These are my latest DT pieces for Gecko Galz. I used images from the lovely Pixie Dust Domino image sheet.

For the pendant I adhered the image to a piece of stampboard, punched a hole and triple embossed it with clear UTEE, I added glitter on the second coat of UTEE. I coloured the sides and back with a gold Krylon pen and then adhered the flower and leaves.

This is the front of my domino book.

For the front and back of my domino book I painted two dominoes with lake Eco Green acrylic paint and then adhered the images and triple embossed them with clear embossing powder.

For the inside I cut some card to size and coloured it with a selection of Distress inks then I stamped some images. I scored the card and concertina folded it. I distressed the edges of the images and adhered them to the card then I attached the front and back dominoes and some ribbon to keep the book closed.

This is the back of my domino book.
The stamps I've used are,
Carolines for the tiny fairies and fairy silhouette.
Stampotique for the mushroom.
Tattered Angels and Inkadinkado for the rest.

Text As Nonsense

Alice didn't dare to argue the point, but went on: `-- and I thought I'd try and find my way to the top of that hill -- ' `When you say "hill,"' the Queen interrupted, `I could show you hills, in comparison with which you'd call that a valley.' `No, I shouldn't,' said Alice, surprised into contradicting her at last: `a hill can't be a valley, you know. That would be nonsense -- ' The Red Queen shook her head, `You may call it "nonsense" if you like,' she said, ` but I've heard nonsense, compared with which that would be as sensible as a dictionary!' -- Chapter 2, Through The Looking Glass and What Alice Found There
For the challenge this month at the ALTERED ALICE  Lynne wants us to use text in a non reading way. I decided to use the Mad Hatter digi from the Octopode Factory.
I started of by taking a page from an old Alice In Wonderland book and splatting it with worn lipstick, rusty hinge and broken china Distress Stain, then I crumpled it up, opened it out again and attached it to a tag. I then took a picture of the tea party from the book, coloured it with old paper and vintage photo Distress ink and attached to the tag, then I added some gold cord. I printed the Mad Hatter and coloured him with Promarkers, cut him out and attached him to the tag. I crumpled up a die cut flower and leaf and coloured them with Distress ink, then stamped some unreadable words onto the flower using a Tattered Angels stamp, these were attached to the tag and I put a gem into the middle of the flower. I made a couple of hat pins by sticking some beads to a couple of dressmakers pins and then stuck them in the Hatters hat.

CREATIVE EXPRESSIONS CALLING CARD CHALLENGE

One of my favorite craft companies CREATIVE EXPRESSIONS has a Design Team call at the moment so I thought I'd have a go. They have set a challenge for all the DT hopefuls that is to produce a piece of work that has an ATC somewhere on the piece. This is the card that I've made for the challenge.
I started of with a cream card blank and edged it with old paper and stormy sky Distress ink. For the background I coloured some white card with spun sugar using the direct to paper technique and then using a baby wipe I spread some broken china and faded jeans over the pink. I stamped the background using stormy sky and then went round the edge with stormy sky using my finger. I tore the edge of a piece of beige corrugated card and coloured parts of it and the edge with stormy sky, then I attached it to the background card, I wrapped a piece of string round it and attached the background to the card blank.
For the ATC I stamped the image onto a piece of spare background card then I tore the edges and went round the edge with faded jeans, then attached it to a piece of blue ATC size card. I stuck blue gems to three of the corners and a little bird charm to the other. For the words I put a strip of blue card through my Dymo machine and put a bit of stormy sky over the letters.
The main image and little birds were stamped with black Archival ink and I used Distress ink for the rest.
The stamps that I used are
Artistic Outpost, the main image.
Inkadinkado, the background.
Tattered Angels, the background.

I've made this tag for the Dragons Dream Tag It On challenge, the theme this week is Lets Face It. I made the tag from some card that has fairies on it and I coloured the edges with forest moss distress ink then I stamped some leafy bits on it in dusty concord. I stamped the main image and sentiment onto some card that I'd coloured with alcohol inks then I matted the images onto some black card before attaching them to the tag.
The stamps that I used are:
Paper Inspirations, the face image.
Stampotique, the sentiment.
Tattered Angels, the background

Another Tag

I'm entering this tag into two challenges Just For Fun, their theme is Tim Holtz products and Dragons Dream Tag It On who's theme is Winged Things.
I used worn lipstick, vintage photo and peeled paint Distress ink on the tag. The butterflies are stamped with crimson Archival ink.
The butterfly stamp is a Tim Holtz Stampers Anonymous stamp and all the other stamps that I used are by Tattered Angels.
For the  die cut birds and flowers I used Tim Holtz Sizzix Alterations dies.

When A Bell Rings

I've made this tag for the Grungy Monday 7 challenge at Studio L3 and the Simon Says Stamp Stamp and Show an Old Wives Tale challenge.
For the Grungy Monday challenge we had to do the Tim Holtz distress ink color blocking technique, you can see him demonstrating the technique here.
I stamped the main image, coloured it in and then cut it out. I stamped the wings onto some sticky backed aluminium with black Stazon and then stuck it to some black card. I went over the lines on the wings with an embossing tool to give them a bit of definition then cut them out and attached them to the main image and then I attached this to the tag. I did the words on the computer and cut them out and attached them to the tag. I embellished the tag with an angel word charm and some mini bells that I attached to the sari ribbon with a safety pin.
The stamps I've used are,
Stampotique for the main image.
Magenta for the leaves on the background.
Tattered Angels for the words on the background.
Invoke Art for the wings.
