Altered Journal Cover

The 1st of May already and time for a new challenge at Altered Eclectics, as always the theme is anything goes as long as it’s mixed media/altered art.

I’ve altered a journal cover for my DT project.

The journal started life with a plain kraft cover.

I covered it with a gelli print and stencilled the flowers with acrylic paint [Decoart and Paperartsy], I stamped some leaves with a Dina Wakley stamp and paint. When the paint had dried I doodled on the flowers and leaves with Posca pens I also drew some tiny flowers.

I found a couple of fabrics in my fabric stash, a green one for the leaves and a yellow one with pretty pink roses on it for the flowers, it's quite a bright yellow but it doesn't show up very well on the photo. I adhered the material to some card and cut out the flower and leaf shapes, I used a black pen on the edges and then adhered them to the page.

Thank you for dropping by to take a look, have a lovely day. xxx

Altered Wooden Clock

Good morning everyone, it’s March 1st already and time for the latest  Altered Eclectics challenge, as always the theme is anything goes as long as it’s altered art/mixed media, paper crafts aren’t allowed.
I've altered a wooden clock for my DT project.

I found this wooden clock in a local charity shop.

I gave the clock a coat of gesso then a coat of Decoart paynes grey acrylic paint, I then gave it a coat of Weathered Wood crackle medium and a coat of Decoart spa blue acrylic paint, I waited for the cracks to appear, I wasn't happy with the crackle, I must have put the crackle medium on too thick as the cracks are quite wide.

I covered the clock with a napkin that has blue roses on it.

I sprayed some cofffee shop Glimmer mist at the bottom of the clock and added some washi tape.

To decorate the clock I used my finger to spread some Imagination Craft moonlight black wax over some silver metal flowers and a paper flower that had been sprayed with moonlight Glimmer Mist. I also used my finger to spread a little treasure pewter on the edges of the clock.

Thank you for dropping by to take a look, have a lovely day. xxx

Altered Art Journal Cover

It’s February already and time for the first Altered Eclectics challenge of the year. As always the theme is Anything Goes as long as it’s mixed media or altered art, no paper crafts allowed.

My DT project is an altered art journal cover.

This is the cover that I’ve altered. I started by removing the chipboard pieces to give me a flat surface to work on.

I found some embossed and die cut card and some wooden pieces that I thought I would use.

I painted the cover with gesso and adhered some of the embossed and die cut card, I decided to use the wooden butterflies, when all the glue was dried I gave it another coat of gesso and then painted it with Decoart acrylic paints, I also used gelatos to add colour.

I dry brushed the cover with some white acrylic paint and added splatters, then I added some metalic wax, the wax doesn't show up on the photo.

This photo shows the front and back, I used a napkin to decorate the back, I think I prefer it to the front.

Thank you for dropping by and enjoy your day, I'm off to the haidressers soon - I'd rather stay in my warm house though. xxx

Sunny Landscapes

Were having a new boiler fitted today and the front door is wide open and I'm freezing, so I decided to share one of the pages that I made for the Art Journal Summer School 2018, the guest teacher was Marlene Meijer-Van Niekerk, I loved this lesson and I'm hoping that thinking of the sunny landscape will warm me up a little.

I'm entering my page into the Art Journal Journey  Creature Comforts challenge chosen by Linda, being warm to me is defiantly a creature comfort.

For the fields I adhered some patterned paper to the page, and the rest of the background was coloured with Decoart acrylic paint. I used acrylic paint and Neocolour 2 to colour the colourful striped field, this is to represent fields of tulips growing. For the houses I used Paperartsy stamps, I used a Finnabair stamp on some gold card for the circle. The sun is stencilled with a Tim Holtz stencil and acrylic paint, the flowers were stencilled with black acrylic paint. I used a Dina Wakley stamp for the trees at the bottom.

Well I haven't warmed up but Iv'e enjoyed looking at my sunny page. Thank you for dropping by to take a look, you're all very welcome. xxx

Christmas Coasters

Good morning everybody - I can't believe that it's December already, the year has flown by and the weather has turned very wintry - it's bitterly cold and we had our first snow yesterday.

Today I'm sharing with you some Christmas coasters that I've made for the Altered Eclectics design team. As always the challenge is Anything Goes as long as its Mixed Media or Altered Art - cards are not accepted.

I used beer mat blanks for the coasters.

I was going to paint the mats but decided to cover them with some gelli prints instead.

For the toppers I used a brayer with acrylic paint to colour some card, I also stencilled some stars with Imagination Craft Starlight paint. I stamped the images with black Archival ink.

I stamped the images onto white copy paper, coloured them with pitt pens and cut them out.

I glued the toppers to the mats.

Then I glued the cut out images onto the images on the mats.

The last thing I did was to give the mats a few coats of Decoart polyurethane varnish.

I enjoyed making the mats and will be making more.

Stamps used:
Artemeo - holly.
Inca Stamps - poinsettia.
Paperartsy/Zinski - Rudolf

Thank you dropping by, why not pop over to Altered Eclectics to take a look at the wonderful inspirational pieces that the rest of the DT have made.

Butterfly ATC

Hi everyone, I hope you all had a good weekend, today I'm sharing an ATC with you.

I'm entering my ATC in  The Artistic Stamper challenge - Winged Things.

I uses distress oxides to colour the background and stencilled some butterflies with Decoart crackle paste, when the paste was dry I sprayed the butterflies with raspberry Color Bloom. I stamped the Finnabair butterfly onto card that had been coloured with distress oxides, I cut it out and glued it to the card, you can't see from the photo that I put some Crackle Accents on the spots, I added some gems on the body and doodled round the edge.

Thank you for dropping by and have a lovely day.

Low Flying Skulls Journal Page

I've done a journal page for my October Mixed Media Mojo DT piece. The theme for the latest challenge is Halloween/Wings.

I painted the background with acrylic paint and stencilled a skull and letters with modelling paste.

I then dribbled some Dylusion ink down the page.

I stamped the pumpkins[Hero Arts], bottles[Creative Expressions] and wings[Hampton Arts] onto card and coloured them with acrylic paint. I covered the small wooden skulls with DecoArt Media Crackle Paste. When the paste had dried I glued the wings to the back of the skulls and glued all the stamped images to the page. I gave the page a coat of Multi Matte Medium, when this dried I added more colour to the images with some Faber-Castell Pitt pens. I used a white Posca Pen to whiten the larger skull.

I hope you can find time to visit and enter the challenge, my team mates have made some fabulous samples and they would love you to take a look.

Have a lovely day.

Butterfly Canvas

The theme for the August Challenge over at Mixed Media Mojo is Anything Goes.

For my DT piece I made a Butterfly Canvas.

I started by sprinkling Brushos onto the canvas and spraying with water.

I then covered the canvas with tissue wrap and painted it with clear gesso.

Then I stencilled some DecoArt Media Modelling paste, let it dry and painted it with white gesso.

I then coloured it with Gelatos and sprayed water, when it had dried I stamped some script and splattered with white paint.

For the large butterflies I used a Stampendous stamp and cutting dies, for the small butterfly I used a Martha Stuart punch and stamp. For the quote I used a stamp by The Artistic Stamper.

My DT teamies would love you to visit Mixed Media Mojo to have a look at their fabulous makes.

Mixed Media Mojo Challenge - Summer

The theme for the latest Mixed Media Mojo Challenge is Summer and the twist is monochromatic.

When I was younger, many years ago, I use to pick flowers in the summer and press them in books, so for my DT piece I decided to alter a flower press that I found in a local charity shop. This is the finished press.

This is the flower press before I altered it.

When I took the press apart I found some long forgotten pressed flowers in it.

I started by painting the top with orange acrylic paint.

I then spread some DecoArt Weathered Wood Crackle Medium and painted it with a beige coloured paint.

In my stash I had a lovely piece of paper that was free in one of the Stampington magazines, I stamped the PaperArtsy/Lin Brown flower four times to make one large flower. I cut this out and glued it to the press.

I cut out two of the smaller flowers from the same stamp set and joined them together with a brad, I coiled some wire and fixed it to the back of the brad and then I glued it to the press. I added some words.

This is a photo of the flower press with some freshly picked flowers ready for pressing.

I'd like to share my project with
The Artistic Stamper challenge - Summer Is On It's Way.
Rhedd's Creative Spirit - Anything Goes.

The rest of the Design Team have made some wonderful inspirational pieces so why not pop over to  Mixed Media Mojo to take a look.

Mixed Media Wednesday

Today it's my turn to share a project for Mixed Media Wednesday over at Mixed Media Mojo.

I covered a 7"x 5" canvas board with dictionary paper, when the glue was dry I stuck down pieces of very sticky masking tape and pulled it of, this removed some of the paper leaving some of the underside, that had stuck to the glue, showing, I also scraped bits of with my finger nail.

I gave the page a wash with watered down acrylic paint and put other colours on with my finger.

I stamped some crackle and flowers, then I splattered some white acrylic paint over it.

The flower and sentiment were stamped and embossed. I used the stem of the flower to go round the edge, The butterflies were stamped onto previously coloured card and cut out, I painted a glossy accents over them.

Items used:
DecoArt - acrylic paint.
Kaiserkraft - crackle stamp.
Visible Image - flower and sentiment stamp.
Innovative Stamp Creations - butterflies.
Archival Ink - black and French ultramarine.
