Decorated Hand

Good morning all, it’s the first of June so it’s time for the latest challenge at Altered Eclectics, as always the theme is Anything Goes as long as the projects are mixed media/altered art, no cards ATCs etc are allowed.

For my DT piece I've decorated a papier-mache hand.

I started by giving the hand a coat of white gesso.

Then I adhered some scraps of paper napkins and rice paper.

This is the front of the hand.

This is the back of the hand.

Then I did a couple of things that I wished I hadn't done - I coloured parts of the hand with turquoise paint and then I went a bit mad with some white and gold splatters.

I added some flowers to the base.

A close up of the flowers and splatters.

Thank you all for dropping by to take a look, have a lovely day. xxx

Mixed Media Art Journal Page

October already, this year's just racing by. My DT piece for this months Altered Eclectics challenge is an art journal page. As always the theme for the challenge is Altered Art/Mixed Media.

I started colouring the background with Gelatos but didn't like the effect so I covered it with gesso and used a brayer to add some acrylic paint. I stencilled some Archival ink and acrylic paint and then added some background stamping. The large flower was stamped onto some patterned paper and cut out. After I adhered the flower to the page I coated it with matte medium then I coloured the flower with pitt pens. I added the word stickers. The flower stamp is by Paperartsy.

Thank you for dropping by, have a lovely day. xxx

Journal Cover

Hi everyone, the first half of the year has gone already and it's now July and time for another challenge at Altered Eclectics, as always the theme is Anything Goes as long as it's Altered Art/Mixed Media, no cards of ATCs are allowed.

I've signed up for the online Art Journal Summer School at the Blocknote Academy, the course starts today and ends in September. For my DT piece I've decorated the front cover of the journal that I will be using for the course.

I decided not to cover the whole of my black journal just the front cover. I masked the edges with masking tape to make a frame. I gave the cover a coat of gesso.

I painted the cover with Fresco Finish pains layering the paints with stencilling and stamping. I wrote the words Art Journal with a black marker and then painted the words with green paint.

I added more paint and stamping until I got a result that I liked. I gave the cover a coat of matte medium. When the medium had dried I used my indian ink pens to make more marks and to add some scribbles.

Thank you for dropping by to take a look, have a lovely day. xxx

Mixed Media Postcard

At the beginning of the year I took part in a Mixed Media swap in the KCUK group, I made a postcard and never got round to blogging it as it's very similar to a canvas that I'd made sometime last year.

I started by colouring the background with Gelatos.

Then I added some cotton and painted it with gesso.

I stencilled some flowers with modelling paste and some shapes with crackle paste.

I added some colour with Gelatos and sprayed with water.

I kept adding colour with gelatos and water.

I stamped some black script and splattered some white paint..

I stamped the butterflies and cut them out after I coloured them, The small butterflies are a Martha Stewart stamp and punch and the large butterfly is a Stampendous stamp and die. The quote is an Artistic Stamper stamp.

Below are some close ups of parts of the postcard.

Thank you for dropping by to take a look, have a lovely day.

Mixed Media Canvas Board

I can't believe it's September already and time for another challenge at Altered Eclectics, as always the theme is Anything Goes but it must be Mixed Media/Altered Art - no cards are allowed.

For my DT piece I've made a mixed media piece on a canvas board.

I started by covering a 8" x 8" canvas board with bits of patterned paper and giving it a light coat of gesso.

Then I added some coloured acrylic paint.

I then used some texture paste with a stencil and painted some gesso over it.

The canvas board was then coloured with Gelatos.

I stamped the leafy branch onto the board and stencilled some tiny pink circles, I also stamped some postmarks. I stamped the leafy branch, flowers and bird onto some of my Gelli prints and cut them out, I adhered them to the board, I also added some Remnent Rubs and the quote. I gave it a coating of Multi Matte Medium.

I finally added more colour to the leaves, flowers and bird with Faber-Castell Pitt pens.

The stamps I used are;
Sheena Douglas - the leafy branch, flowers and bird.
Hobby Arts - the quote.
Postmark - unknown

Thank you for looking at my work, I hope you can take time to look at the lovely inspirational pieces that the rest of the Altered Eclectics DT have made.

Mixed Media Wednesday

Today it's my turn to share a project for Mixed Media Wednesday over at Mixed Media Mojo.

I covered a 7"x 5" canvas board with dictionary paper, when the glue was dry I stuck down pieces of very sticky masking tape and pulled it of, this removed some of the paper leaving some of the underside, that had stuck to the glue, showing, I also scraped bits of with my finger nail.

I gave the page a wash with watered down acrylic paint and put other colours on with my finger.

I stamped some crackle and flowers, then I splattered some white acrylic paint over it.

The flower and sentiment were stamped and embossed. I used the stem of the flower to go round the edge, The butterflies were stamped onto previously coloured card and cut out, I painted a glossy accents over them.

Items used:
DecoArt - acrylic paint.
Kaiserkraft - crackle stamp.
Visible Image - flower and sentiment stamp.
Innovative Stamp Creations - butterflies.
Archival Ink - black and French ultramarine.

Altered Packaging

It's time for the latest Altered Eclectic challenge. As always the theme is Anything Goes but it must be Mixed Media/Altered Art, no cards are allowed.

For my DT piece this month I decided to turn some Amazon packaging into a colourful folder.

This is the packaging I started with.

I started by covering everything with white gesso and then painted it with acrylic paint.

I then scraped some gesso over it using a credit card. I left some of the colour showing and added some shapes and lines using my finger and small brush I also used a stencil in places. I stamped some flowers [Chocolate Baroque] onto book paper and cut them out and glued them to the piece keeping some aside for later.

I then added more colour until I was pleased with the result and then I added some black script. I used a mixture of Fresco Finish, DecoArt and Reeves acrylic paint.

I painted the inside of the folder and glued down the flaps, then I added some of the spare flowers.

I decided to use a magnetic closure so I glued in the magnets and covered the magnet on the front with a flower, then I glued a couple of flowers to card so that they were more sturdy, I glued these to the front and back of the magnet on the flap.

This is the back of the folder.

This is a close up of the paintwork,

Why not pop over the the Altered Eclectic Challenge to see the fabulous pieces that the rest of DT have made.

Halloween Time

I wasn't going to do anything for Halloween this year but I didn't get my second project finished at the Andy Skinner workshop that I went to a couple of weeks ago.  I brought home the painted foam board and clock from the workshop and found some plastic skulls in my stash so it ended up being a Halloween project.

I'd like to enter my project in the following challenges.

Mixed Media Mojo - Halloween/Fall with fabric, I used hessian for the background.
Rhedd's Creative Spirit - Halloween or Not.
Altered Eclectics - Anything Goes.

Here are a couple of photos of the skull.

I used mostly DecoArt products.
The clock was covered with Crackle Paste.
I used Modeling Paste on the edges to give some texture.
The round bit at the top is the center of the clock, I painted it with acrylic paint and covered it with Crackle Glaze.
I used a Kaisercraft crackle stamp on the background.
Everything was painted with acrylic paints and I used some olive bronze and emerald Treasure Gold and Treasure Brass on the raised areas and also on the skulls.

Here is a closer look at Mr Poe.

I did an image transfer with a Gecko Galz image and stamped some script. The edges were done the same way as the skull section.
I painted some hessian with gesso and adhered all the bits to it.
I added some die cut ravens [Sizzix], the clock is a Sizzix die as well.
