Altered Notebook Cover

It's the start of a new month so it's time for a new challenge at Altered Eclectics, as always the theme is Anything Goes - no cards allowed. For my Project this month I've altered the cover of a notebook.

This is the notebook that I used. I started by covering the book with a gelli print and some torn patterned paper, then I added some thread. I coloured the centre panel with distress oxide and added some tissue tape. The Stampers Anonymous flowers were stamped with black Archival ink and coloured with pitt pens. I also stamped a couple of flowers on white card, coloured them with pitt pens, cut them out and glued them over the stamped images. The notebook was embellished with ribbon, metal charm, remnent rubs and word stickers.

The rest of the design team have made some lovely projects and they would love you to take a look. Happy crafting. xxx Hazel.

Altered Eclectics DT Post

It's the first of the month so it's time for the latest Altered Eclectics challenge, as always the theme is Anything Goes as long as it's Mixed Media/Altered Art, no cards or ATCs are allowed.

For my DT piece I've decorated this notebook cover.

This is the finished notebook.

I started by spreading some acrylic paint over a piece of copy paper with an old credit card.

I then spread some white paint.

More colours are added.

I then added other colours using stencils and some stamping.

I covered the notebook with the paper.

I stamped the PaperArtsy/Lin Brown flower onto a french book page and cut them out, then I glued them to the cover.

I coloured the flowers and added some remnant rubs to the cover.

The very talented DT would love you to visit Altered Eclectics to have a look at the fabulous things they've made.

Altered Notebook

KCUK had a Butterfly Mingle a couple of months ago, we could make anything we liked as long as there was a butterfly on it, my partner was Darlene and this is the altered notebook that I made for her.

I started by brayering different coloured acrylic paint onto a piece of copy paper and stenciled some leaves with acrylic paint, I lightly drew round the leaves with a black pencil.
After covering the notebook I added some frayed fabric and a piece of a Sizzix die cut with some ribbon threaded through it.
The image was stamped onto coloured card two times and I fussy cut one of the butterflies and covered it with stickles.
I embellished the cover with a couple of stick pins that I'd made, some roses and some tiny butterfly charms.

I'd like to link my notebook to the following challenges.
Artist Trading Post Exchange Anything Mixed Media Goes.
Altered Eclectics Anything Goes.
Rhedd's Creative Spirit Halloween or Not.

This is the notebook before I altered it.

This is the background paper that I made.

I then covered the notebook with the paper.

This is the back of the book. I'm not sure who made The Indian Butterfly Legend stamp.

Ribbons and Lace

Another fortnight has flown by and it's time for the latest Craft Room Challenge. The theme has been chosen by our new team member Annie - it's her first challenge and she has chosen Ribbons and Lace.

We are sponsored once again by the ever generous Crafty Individuals.

For my DT piece I altered a notebook that I found in a charity shop.
I covered the notebook with some patterned paper from my stash and layered some lace, ribbon and a couple of patterned paper that I'd distressed. I stamped the image [Crafty Individuals] onto mountboard and coloured it with distress ink then I triple embossed it with clear embossing powder. I adhered the image to the notebook and added some ribbon flowers and an addage ticket. I coloured some wooden butterflies with Treasure brass and adhered them to the book.
The rest of my team mates have made some wonderful samples so why not visit the Craft-Room to take a look.

Craft-Room Challenge - Wood

Thank you everyone that entered the Trees and/or Leaves Challenge - your entries were fabulous, I shall be posting the winner and my top three next week.

Zoe has chosen the theme for this challenge and she has chosen Wood.  This is what she has to say about the challenge.
When I saw the stand at a local craft show I had to get a selection of goodies to try, wood is a great medium to work with and this time we would like you to include something made of wood in your entry.   Real wood not an image be it twigs from the garden, some bark, or a wooden embellishment from the craft shop.   Anything just keep the wood as the main focus.

We have another New Sponsor this time The MDF Man no banner but go and take a look at all the goodies he has ready and waiting for altering.   He has given us a selection of his Cogs as a prize for one lucky person drawn at random.

Last year I went to an Andy Skinner Image Transfer Workshop so for my DT piece I decided to do some image transfers on some wooden coasters that I bought from the MDF Man at Ally Pally earlier in the year.

These are the coasters before I altered them.

These are the coasters after I altered them.

I used some Da Vinci images printed onto copy paper with an inkjet printer.
I also used white and light buttermilk DecoArt Americana paint, multi matte medium, Americana DuraClear Satin Varnish and Treasure Brass on the edges.

The rest of the DT have made some fabulous pieces and would love you to visit the Craft-Room Challenge to take a look.

Here are the samples that I've made.

A Christmas Card.

An 8" x 8" layout. I used a Martha Stewart border punch for the lacy edges, a Marianne Design die for the flourishes. The hat was cut using my Cricut machine and the Paper Doll Dress Up cartridge. I handmade the flowers and then added lace and some pearls to the side and to the hat.

A New Years card. The clock is a Tim Holtz Sizziz/Alterations die. I stamped and embossed the fireworks in the background using different coloured embossing powders that had glitter in it.

An altered notebook. I covered the book with a patterned paper and I also covered a card frame with a coordinating paper. I went round the edges with dusty concord Distress ink and stamped the flourishes in the corners of the cover with a Creative Expressions stamp and dusty concord Distress ink. I embellished it with lace, ribbon, flowers and metal corners.

I hope you enjoy the hop and I wish you all Good Luck.

Ethel's Shopping List Notebook

For my latest CREATIVE EXPRESSIONS DT project I decided to alter one of the long slim shopping list notebooks using the Wrinkles Don't Hurt stamp sheet.
I covered the notebook with papers from my stash, then I attached some torn strips of the paper that I'd coloured the edges with Distress ink, then I added a piece of corrugated card that I'd coloured with ink. I stamped Ethel and the sentiment onto some card and coloured with Promarkers, then I cut them out and coloured the edges with Distress ink. I added a few sticky backed gems.
Vintage photo, aged mahogany and victorian velvet are the colours of Distress inks that I've used.

Fun Swap

Firstly I'd like to thank everyone for their commiserations for the  loss of my cat Dino. It's lovely to know that there are so many caring people out in blog land.

In July KCUK had a fun swap. Dot sends out something to the people taking part and we have to make something crafty with it to send to our swap partner, I had to send mine to Darlene. Dot sent us the two money envelopes and the piece of leather on the right of the photo. I was stumped, it took me ages to decide what I was going to do with it, in the end I decided to alter the notebook on the left of the photo.
This is the end result. I covered the notebook with some paper from my stash and coloured it and the envelopes with some rusty hinge and broken china Distress ink. I then stamped a variety of images over the front of the book and envelopes. I attached the envelopes to the front and inside front cover leaving the tops open to make pockets. The next thing I did was to attach a piece of tissue tape and a row of Martha Stewart die cut birds to the top of the envelope. The blue letters were cut with the chip block letters Tim Holtz Sizzix Alterations die. I stamped the pattern on the leather using teal blue Stazon and cut the bird out with a Tim Holtz Sizzix Alterations Die. I had a little bit of leather left so I stamped 3 little birds and cut them out to use as embellishments. I decorated a tag/bookmark the same way as the notebook to fit into the front pocket.
The stamps that I used are by TJ Designs, Inkadinkado, Crafty Individuals and Penny Black.
The notebook and bookmark.

Altered Notebook

I did this for theVoila Ink group Challenge over on Bella Creations. The theme is umbrellas. I am also entering it for the Simon Says stamp and show some distressing challenge.
I decided to alter the front of one of those long thin shopping list notebooks. I started off by covering the cover with a piece of card to make it a bit stronger. I used the colours lake and sunflower Eco Green acrylic paint to colour the front of the pad. I stamped some circles and blobs with distress ink and stamped the small umbrella man with black archival  ink. Then I inked the edge with my finger and black soot distress ink. The distress ink looks quite pale, I think the acrylic paint soaks it up a bit. The Sizzix Alterations die of the umbrella man is one of the goodies that I bought at Alexander Palace on Saturday. I used card to die cut him and coloured him with the lake acrylic paint. Then I used distress ink to stamp circles and blobs, then using my finger I went round the edge of him with black soot. I attached him to the notebook then I attached some words cut from some adage tickets.
The stamps I used are all from the Stampers Anonymous apart from a flourish that is made by the Stamp Bug.
The Distress ink colours that I used are stormy sky, vintage photo, and black soot.
