Summertime Love

Hi everybody, today I'm sharing with you a page that I've made for this months Art Journal Journey challenge, Elizabeth from the Altered Book Lover blog has chosen the Theme of Summertime Love. There's lots of things that I love about the summertime and one of them are sunflowers. My page is a watercolour using Neocolor 11 and Faber-Castell watercolour pencils, I used pitt pens for the writing.

Thank you for taking a look, have a lovely weekend.
xxx Hazel.

Inspired By Rene Magritte

I  did this monochromatic painting of Rene Magritte's The Great War in 2002 when I use to go to watercolour classes, we had to find a painting and choose one paint to paint it with.

It was too big to go in my journal so I printed it and cut the image out but then I had to do a background so I decided on another Magritte painting The Empty Picture Frame. This is the result.
I'm linking it to the Art Journal Journey challenge - Inspired by the masters.

For the background I used watercolour pencils and a waterbrush.

This is a photo of The Great War

and this is a photo of The Empty Picture Frame.

Inchie - Mountain Peak

Mountain Peak is this weeks theme at Every Inchie Monday.

My inchie reminds me of the mountain that we drove over in Ireland last year.
I drew the scene and coloured it with watercolour pencils.
I also drew another mountain peak with snow on the top.

In The Library

It's time for another Craft Room Challenge, the theme is In The Library and it has been chosen by the lovely Debi. Here is why she has chosen the theme and what she would like you to create.

I love books, if I'm not in my studio I've got my head in a book, so for my theme I've chosen, In the Library. I want to see books, stamps of books, mini books, altered books, pages from books, text, script .... I think you've probably got the idea?

Our sponsors for the challenge are  Rogue Redhead Designs .

Rogue Redhead Designs specializes in vintage, eclectic
and modern stamp designs. Pressed into quality red rubber, these highly detailed images are sure to impress.

I have an old book of birds so I photocopied a couple of pages and I'm sorry to say that I didn't draw the birds but used some Joanna Sheen bird stamps. I love these stamps but they don't get used very often.

The Kingfisher

I used a watercolour pad and watercolour pencils.

The Swallow

The rest of the DT have made some wonderful samples so why not visit the Craft Room Challenge to take a look.

12 Tags of 2013 - February

I was so excited when I found out that I was one of the January tag winners and still being flushed with success I thought it was time to make my February tag.
I decided to keep my tag as close to the tag that Tim made using the things that I had in my stash.
You can find Tim's February tag here.
Here is my take on the tag.

Here is a list of the things that I used.
Ripe persimmon, fired brick Distress stain.
Black soot Distress ink.
Black Archival Ink.
Watercolour pencils
Kraft core card.
QuickCutz letter and numbers die.
Art Impressions and 7Gypsies stamps.
Orange Sakura Jelly Roll pen.
Sticker from my stash.

The image was coloured with the watercolour pencils and some water.
I die cut the letters and adhered them to the Kraft core card before sanding them.
The Sakura pen was used to draw and colour the hearts at the top of the tag.

Another LIM Card

I've managed to make another card for the LESS IS MORE sketch challenge.
I stamped the image onto white card and coloured it with watercolour pencils, then went round the edge with a blue ink pad and I also went round the edge of the card blank with the blue ink pad. I attached the image to the card and added some stickles on the snowy bits, then I stamped the Season's Greetings.
All the stamps that I've used are by Creative Expressions.

Anything Christmas

Well another fortnight has flown by and it's time for another CRAFT-ROOM CHALLENGE. The challenge has been chosen by the lovely Julia and she has chosen Anything Christmas.
I decided to make a card using one of my oldest and much loved stamps. I started of by matting some gold card onto a red card blank and on top of this I matted a piece of patterned paper that I'd distressed the edges leaving them white. I then attached a piece of gold net across the centre. The poinsettia was stamped twice onto white card and I coloured the petals with watercolour pencils and water brush. I distressed the edge of one of the images and coloured with vintage photo Distress ink, the image was then matted onto gold card and attached to the card blank. I cut out some of the petals on the spare image and 3D them onto the main image then I added some gold beads. The sentiment is a pre-made one, I distressed the edge and coloured with vintage photo then attached it to the card. The last thing was to add a few gold gems.

The poinsettia stamp is by PSX.

Why not pop over to the Craft Room challenge blog to look at the rest of the samples that the talented DT have made and don't forget to be eligible for the prize you need to put the Craft Room logo into your side bar with a link to the Craft-Room.

Peacock Notebook

Here is my latest DT piece for GECKO GALZ. I started of by printing the peacock from the Once Upon A Time Digi Set and colouring it in with watercolour pencils and water brush. I matted it onto black card and then attached it to a piece of paper that's decorated with peacock feathers. I then covered it all with a piece of acetate attaching it with the little pink flower brads and then I matted it on to a piece of black card. I then attached the whole thing to a notebook that I had covered with patterned paper.
