A Splash Of Colour

My first scheduled post while I'm in Ireland is some ATCs that I've made for the Paperplay August ATC swap. The theme is a splash of colour.

For the background I splatted some wild honey and worn lipstick Distress stain onto some white card and coloured the edges with vintage photo Distress ink then I stamped the PaperArtsy image. I stamped and cut out the PaperArtsy cotton reel and wrapped some coloured thread round them and I added some buttons.

Three, Two, One.

The theme for the August ATC swap at the UK Stampers is to use three of something, two of something and one of something. I use three faces, two words and one crown.

I cut the ATCs out of some card that I'd coloured with Dylusions ink and I coloured the edges with peacock feathers distress ink. I stamped my PaperArtsy image onto white card and coloured the cheeks and eye with coloured pencil then I adhered it to the ATCs. I stamped the words [stamps unknown] and them I stamped and gold embossed my Flonz Craft crown, cut it out and adhered it to the ATCs. I drew lines round the edges of the ATCs.

I'm of to Ireland on Thursday for a week, our friends son is getting married there. Most of our friends are just going for the weekend but we decided to add a couple of days either side of the weekend to make a longer break. I'm not sure if I'm taking my laptop with me so I'll try and schedule a couple of posts before I go and I don't think I'll be able to do any commenting but will try and catch up as soon as I get back.

Oil Pastel Scratched Canvas

A couple of weeks ago I was watching a lady on You Tube create a scratch canvas using Sakura Cray-Pas oil pastels, I decided to have a go, so out came my oil pastels from their hiding place and this is what I made.

This is how it was done.

Start of by colouring the canvas with the oil pastels until you've got a pattern that you're happy with.

Then you cover the whole thing with black oil pastel - very messy. You then cover this with your chosen stencil, I used a Creative Expressions clock mask, then using the point of a wooden skewer scratch away the black oil pastel to reveal the colours underneath, for some reason the colours underneath don't get scratched away. I sprayed the canvas with some Americana Matt Acrylic sealer to give it a bit of protection. This is the end result.

I then embellished my canvas with some cogs, chain, charm and some letters from my stash.

Creative Expressions Texture/The Secret Garden

This is a canvas that I've made for the Creative Expressions 2012 Design Team call. They want to see some texture of some sort on the piece of work, I used texture embossing paste.

I started by spraying the canvas with various colours of Dylusions inks, when it had dried I stamped some crackle with a Tattered Angels stamp. I have an old copy of the Secret Garden that I found in a charity shop and tore out a page and adhered it to the canvas, then I added the texture with a Crafters Workshop stencil and some Dreamweaver Crackle Embossing Paste. When this had dried I lightly coloured it with picked raspberry Distress ink and wiped off the excess with a damp cloth.
I stamped the image [Paper Inspirations] onto card that I'd coloured with different coloured inks and lightened the face with water then I adhered it to the canvas.
I die cut the grungeboard branch with the Bird Branch Sizziz/Alterations die. This was coloured with Distress stains and felt tips. I coloured some card with wild honey, worn lipstick and peeled paint Distress ink, then I die cut the roses and leaves with the Sizzix/Alterations Tattered Pinecone die. I made the roses and adhered them to the canvas.
The butterflies [La Blanche] were stamped onto coloured card, cut out and adhered to the canvas.
I then found the words that I wanted in the book and tore them out and adhered them to the canvas.

This is a closer look at the embossing paste.

I'm entering my canvas in the
Simon Says Stamp And Show No Rules Challenge.

Pins and/or charms Challenge

Time for another challenge at the Craft-Room. The challenge this time is to use pins and/or charms on your work and it has been chosen by the lovely Nikki.
This is the card I've made.

Our sponsors for the challenge are Crafty Individuals who make the most fabulous stamps.

I coloured a white card blank with vintage photo Distress ink then I used a ribbon punch on the right hand side. I coloured some white lace and seam binding with pink Dylusions spray, on the photo the lace looks a different colour to the binding but they are the same colour. I adhered the lace and some cream lace to the card and threaded the binding through the punched holes.
I scribbled some Kuretake Zig Art Pens onto a large acrylic block, sprayed some water and pressed a piece of white card onto it to colour the card. When dry I edged it with vintage photo. The Crafty Individuals image was stamped onto white card and watercoloured with the Zig pens, it was also edged with vintage photo. The dicuts were cut on my Cricut Expression, coloured with vintage photo and adhered to the card and then I adhered the image.
I attached some rose ribbon and made some stick pins, these were attached to the card and I also added some pearls to the seam binding and a birdcage charm.

We had some fabulous entries in the Fashion challenge which will make it very difficult for me to pick my top 3. I'm looking forward to seeing what you create with your charms and pins, why not pop over to the Craft-Room Challenge blog to see the fabulous work that the rest of the Design Team have made.

Another Stylish Card

Here is my latest creation for Creative Expressions using the fabulous Gala Event stamp set.

I covered a card blank with paper from my stash and edged it with scattered straw and dusty concord Distress ink. I drew some black lines around the edge and added the ribbon and stamped the sentiment. I'd coloured some card with mica spray some time ago and stamped the dress twice onto it. I cut the dress out and decoupaged it and added a bow to the back. I adhered the dress onto a diecut piece of contrasting paper, I coloured the edge with Distress ink and the die that I used was a Spellbinders Labels 4 die. I added some tiny pearls to the corners.

So Very Stylish Bookmarks

I've decided to make some colourful bookmarks for my latest Creative Expressions DT piece.
I've used a dress and sentiment from the Creative Expressions Gala Event stamp set and the spotty stamp from Sam Poole's Butterfly Girl stamp set.

I sprayed some white card with various colours of Dylusions spray. After cutting the bookmarks I stamped the spots with black Archival and rounded the corners. I stamped the dress onto the coloured card, cut them out and matted them onto white card. I added the sentiment, sari ribbon, handbag charm and some gems.

Fashion At The Craft-Room

It's time for another challenge at the Craft-Room and it's my turn to choose the theme, I have chosen FASHION. I think we all like fashion whether we follow the latest trends or just like looking at photo's in magazines etc. For my card I've chosen fashion of the 50's but you can choose any fashion trends from any era. Have fun with the challenge, I'm looking forward to seeing what you create.
Here is my card.

The first prize for the challenge is provided by our brand new sponsor Flonz Stamps, they're based in New Zealand and they have a fabulous range of stamps.

I layered various patterned papers over a card blank and attached some spotty ribbon. I stamped the images onto white card and coloured the skin areas with coloured pencil. I stamped the images again onto patterned paper and cut out the dresses then adhered them to the main images. I matted the images onto black card and added the flowers and gems, the sentiment is of the computer.

The design team have made some fabulous samples so why not visit the Craft-Room and take a look.

So Very Stylish and DT Call

Creative Expressions have a DT call at the moment, you can find the details here, so if you like the idea of working with a lovely team and fabulous products why not have a go.

This is my latest DT card using the gorgeous Creative Expressions Gala Event stamp set and for the background I used Studio 490/Wendy Vecchi Sentimental Art stamp set.
I stamped So Very Stylish around the edge of a square card blank with black Archival and then edged it with scattered straw Distress ink. Onto a piece of white card I stamped and edged the background with scattered straw then added the ribbon before adhering it to the card. The dresses were stamped onto coloured card and cut out. I stamped the sentiment onto card and cut out with a Spellbinders big scalloped rectangles die, then edged it with scattered straw. I embellished the card with a few little gems.
