Illustrated Travel Log

Marieke Blockland was the teacher for lesson 7 at the Art Journal Summer School 2016, for this lesson we had to do an Illustrated Travel Log. In 2012 we went to Ireland for a wedding and had a wonderful long weekend there, so I decided to illustrate the weekend.

I'd like to enter my travel log in this months Art Journal Journey challenge, the theme has been chosen by Gill an is Natures Wonders, Ireland is full of natures wonders.

I drew the images with pencil and coloured them with watercolour.

I think this is a lovely way to record ones travels and I hope to do more.

Thank you for visiting, have a lovely day.

Flutter By Butterfly

Good morning everyone, I hope you are enjoying the bank holiday, I was hoping to have a lovely relaxing day in the garden but next doors builders have turned up so it's going to be a noisy day.

Go Bold With Colour is the theme for this weeks Go Tag Thursday challenge.

I used watercolour card for the tag and sprayed it with home made ink sprays, when the spray had dried I sprayed it with a mica spray - the tag has a lovely shimmer, I stamped the flowers [Darkroom Door and the small butterflies [stamp unknown]. The main butterfly was left over from a project I made a while ago, I used a clock hand for the body and added some gems.

This photo shows some of the shimmer.

Thank you for dropping by, enjoy your Monday.

Z Is For Zebra

Z is the latest letter for the Craft Barns Alpha/Dictionary challenge, this challenge has a twist, we have to add a pearl.
I wasn't sure if I was going to get my postcard finished in time as I couldn't find my zebra stamp anywhere, I ended up printing an image of the internet.
I used a Dreamweaver Stencil and Archival ink to stencil the background, I added my cut out zebra, dictionary definition, some sticky backed pearls and the letter Z.

Thank you for visiting and have a lovely weekend.

Book Print Tag

I'm sharing a tag with you today.
I sprayed the tag with some sprays that I'd made by mixing Distress reinkers with water, the colours were a bit too vibrant so I covered the tag with some tissue wrap. I stamped the La Blanche flower onto a book page, coloured it with watercolour pencils and glued it to the tag. I added some ribbon and flowers and a Stampotique stamp was used for the quote.

I'm entering my tag in the following challenges.
Go Tag Thursday - Book Print.
Try It On Tuesday - Book Pages

Thank you for dropping by and have a lovely day.

Baby Shower Cake

My friends daughter is expecting twins, a boy and a girl and I was asked to make a cake for the baby shower. I looked on the internet for inspiration and in the end we decided on a cake made by Dolce Dita, she makes the most wonderful cakes.

This is my version of the cake.

I had a wonderful time at the shower but drank and ate a bit to much.
Thank you for looking.

Go Tag Thursday - Beach Huts

I'm very pleased to be hosting this weeks challenge at Go Tag Thursday and the theme I have chosen is Beach Huts.
The challenge is fairly new and is run by Sandie, it would be lovely if you visited and entered the challenge.

I made two samples.

I used grey board as the base for this tag. I painted the tag with a dark turquoise acrylic paint and when it was dry I painted Weathered Wood crackle medium in lines hoping it would look like planks of wood, I painted white paint over the tag and waited for the crackles. I used a black pencil to try and make the planks of wood look like planks of wood. The door was painted with watered down paint. I coloured some gauze with distress ink and glued it to the bottom of the tag and added some shells and an anchor charm, I cut the oars out of a magazine and the Life's A Beach was made using a Crafty Individuals stamp.

I coloured this tag with distress ink and dry brushed some white acrylic over it, I used a Crafty Individuals beach hut stamp on the background and added some tissue tape. The main image was stamped with a Michael Powell stamp and coloured with pencils. I coloured some gauze with distress ink and glued it to the bottom of the tag together with some white ric rac ribbon. The boat was stamped with a Crafty Secrets stamp, cut out and glued to the tag. The quote is a Hobby Art stamp.

Thank you for looking - have a lovely day and I hope you can take part in the challenge.

Art Journal Summer School - Lesson 4

Iris Fritschi-Cussons was the teacher for lesson 4, I must admit that I enjoyed this lesson as we used acrylic paint and got messy.

I'd bought the wrong sort of journal so I had to tear a page out and join it to another page with masking tape - there will be a lot of pages done like this.

The page was done using two colours plus black and white acrylic paint and a couple of stencils, we used watercolours to shade the face, I'm not use to shading like this and never do rosy cheeks - I always try and blend colours together, but it was good to do something I'm not use to.

Thank you for looking.

SPA - Pets

Pets is the theme for this weeks Sunday Postcard Art challenge. Over the years we've had many pets and still have a house full - two dogs, a cat, six snakes, a gecko, two tree frogs and Little Harry the tortoise. They say that people start looking like their pets, I'm not sure which one I look like but I hope its not the snakes.

I glued scraps of paper to the card and added some Gecko Galz images. I added the words and doodled round the edge.

Thank you for looking, have a lovely day.

Art Journal Summer School - Lesson 3

Firstly I would like to welcome and say a big thank you to Penny who has just started following me.

Marieke Blockland was the teacher for lesson 3 and she had us painting water.

For this page Marieke gave us a words like head, hat, sunglasses, swimsuit etc. and we had to draw them very quickly, then we coloured the page with acrylic paint, I think my swimming pool looks more like the sea. I've got to finish the jourmaling.

For this page we had to look for images of swimming pools and use watercolours to paint them. The top picture is looking into a pool and for the bottom one I decided to do part of the pool rather than the whole pool.

Thank you for looking and have a lovely weekend. We're having a new front door fitted as I'm writing this and looking at the amount of dust in the hall I think I shall be cleaning all weekend.

I used gelatos on the background and some tissue tape. I added some material, I stamped the coloured butterflies with a home made stamp pad, I also stamped the butterflies in black and cut them out, I put some stickles on the wings.
The butterflies are a Stampers Anonymous stamp.
