AJSS 2018 JOURNAL PAGES

Good morning everyone, I hope you’re having a lovely weekend.
I’ve been looking through some photos of work that I did earlier in the year and didn’t post, I found a couple of art journal pages to share with you that I’d done for the Art Journal Summer School 2018.

This page was done for a lesson taken by Iris Fritschi - Cussens, we had to draw the figures with our left hand or right hand if left handed. I use acrylic paint and the quote was a sticker that I found in my stash.

Dina Wakley was the teacher for this lesson, I used a stencil, scribble sticks and Tim Holtz word stickers.

Thank you for visiting. Have a lovely day. xxx

I haven’t done a lot of crafting or blogging over the last few months but hope to be back blogging and being creative in the new year. I did knit this jolly little bottle cover a few weeks ago and thought I would share him with you.

Thank you for visiting my blog over the past year and leaving your much appreciated comments. Have a lovely Christmas and happy and healthy New Year. xxx🎅🏻🎅🏻🎅🏻

Poppy Art Journal Page

Good morning everyone, a bright and sunny start to the day here, I hope it’s the same where you are.

I’m sharing with you an art journal page that I made a few months ago, I’ll have to try and remember the products that I used as I’ve lost the notes that I took at the time.

I used acrylic paint on the background and stencils, the poppy seedhead is a Paperartsy stencil and I used an Aall&Create stencil for the grass at the bottom. I stamped the poppy on some tissue paper and adhered it to the page, then I coloured the image with felt tip pens. I added some remnant rubs and some orange washi tape round the edges.

Thank you for visiting, you’re all very welcome. Have a lovely day. xxx

Art Journal Page

Good morning everybody. It's time for a new challenge at Altered Eclectics, as always the theme is Mixed Media/Altered Art.

I've done an art journal page for my DT piece.

I started by adding some colour to the page using watered down Dylusions ink, then I added some torn strips of washi tape, strips of book pages, a bit more colour and then I added some stamped script. I scribbled a circle on the corner and scribbled some writing round it. I die cut the circle using an Elizabeth entwined circle die and embossed it with some Frantage embossing enamel, the butterfly was made using a Sizzix stamp and die. I added a pen nib for the body and some stickles on the wings, the words are a Tim Holtz sticker.

Thank you for dropping by to take a look, have a lovely day. xxx

Trick or Treat Art Journal Page

Good morning everyone, today I'm very happy to be a guest designer for Try It On Tuesday, the theme for their latest challenge is Trick Or Treat/Halloween.

I've made an art journal page.

I covered a page in my Dina Wakley journal with a sheet of Gecko Galz background paper and then I  painted the edges with white paint. I printed a mixture of Gecko Galz and Mischief Circus images, cut them out and adhered them to the page, I added a little colour to some of the images with coloured pencils. The red moon's made of tissue paper. I used a Sizzix die for the crow and branch, for the cat and flying witch I used Cherry Pie Art stamps, the spider and cobweb are Inkadinkado stamps and the sentiment is a Tim Holtz stamp, I wrote Trick Or Treat on the roof. The image with the horns was just a head and shoulders so I used a silver Gelato to make him look like he had a ghostly body.

Thank you for dropping by to take a look, why not pop over to Try It On Tuesday to see the inspirational pieces that the design team have made. xxx

Sunny Landscapes

Were having a new boiler fitted today and the front door is wide open and I'm freezing, so I decided to share one of the pages that I made for the Art Journal Summer School 2018, the guest teacher was Marlene Meijer-Van Niekerk, I loved this lesson and I'm hoping that thinking of the sunny landscape will warm me up a little.

I'm entering my page into the Art Journal Journey  Creature Comforts challenge chosen by Linda, being warm to me is defiantly a creature comfort.

For the fields I adhered some patterned paper to the page, and the rest of the background was coloured with Decoart acrylic paint. I used acrylic paint and Neocolour 2 to colour the colourful striped field, this is to represent fields of tulips growing. For the houses I used Paperartsy stamps, I used a Finnabair stamp on some gold card for the circle. The sun is stencilled with a Tim Holtz stencil and acrylic paint, the flowers were stencilled with black acrylic paint. I used a Dina Wakley stamp for the trees at the bottom.

Well I haven't warmed up but Iv'e enjoyed looking at my sunny page. Thank you for dropping by to take a look, you're all very welcome. xxx

Mixed Media Art Journal Page

October already, this year's just racing by. My DT piece for this months Altered Eclectics challenge is an art journal page. As always the theme for the challenge is Altered Art/Mixed Media.

I started colouring the background with Gelatos but didn't like the effect so I covered it with gesso and used a brayer to add some acrylic paint. I stencilled some Archival ink and acrylic paint and then added some background stamping. The large flower was stamped onto some patterned paper and cut out. After I adhered the flower to the page I coated it with matte medium then I coloured the flower with pitt pens. I added the word stickers. The flower stamp is by Paperartsy.

Thank you for dropping by, have a lovely day. xxx

Craftpod Makes

Good morning everybody, the sun is out but it's a little chilly.

My Autumn Craftpod box arrived during the week, it reminded me that I haven't posted the projects that I made with the Spring and Summer boxes.

I loved the colours for the projects in the Summer box, the rose cross stitch had a hoop to display it in but I found a small trinket box that had been waiting years to have something done to it, the rose was ideal.

This project is a sewing needle case, I enjoyed making this even though I stitched the embroidered panel to the front a little wonky

The Spring box had a stitch sampler to embroider and a bag to make and embroider.

I'm now looking forward to making the projects from the Autumn box, one of the projects is a little different, no stitching anywhere.

Thank you for taking a look, have a lovely weekend. xxx

SPA - Venus

This weeks challenge for the  Sunday Postcard Art is Venus.

For the background I used distress ink with a stencil. I stamped the images [unsure of the make] on tissue paper and adhered them to the card, because she has no arms I gave her some seashell wings. I got the Venus image on the Internet.

Thank you for visiting, your'e all very welcome. xxx

Moon Godess

Good morning everybody, the sun is shining today, I hope it lasts. Today I'm sharing a journal page that I made in July, it was made for a Burkmates Creative Outlets challenge (James Burkes Facebook group}. James posted an image of one of his drawings and we could use it anyway we wanted.

I'm entering my page in the Art Journal Journey challenge A World Of Fantasy, the theme was chosen by Yvonne.

I used Cosmic Shimmer Pixie Powder and a stencil for the background, I printed James image and cut her out together with the moons. I drew the dangling stars and coloured them and her hair with a gold Imagination Crafts starlighs paint. I added gold splatters and edged the page with a black marker. The shimmer on the page doesn't show up very well on the photo.

Thank you for dropping by to take a look, have a lovely day. xxx

Take A Ride

Hi everyone. I'm sharing with you a couple of man cards that I had to make last week, I'm also entering them in the Try It On Tuesday Take a Ride challenge.

The background for this card was already made in my stash and I stamped the Crafty Individuals train onto card that I'd coloured with distress inks. The circles on the background were made with an AALL&Create stamp, I'm not sure who made the ruler stamp or the sentiment stamp.

For this card I spread some gesso directly onto the card and did some stamping - unsure who made the stamps. The Crafty Individuals car was stamped onto card stained with some vintage photo distress ink.

Thank you for looking, enjoy your day. xxx

Southern Gals 5x7 Challenge Day 2

Hi all. This week I'm joining in with the Southern Gals 5x7 art challenge. We have to make a piece of art in 5 minutes for 7 days. I did day 1 but I didn't finish it in 5 minutes so I'm going to finish it before I blog it.

Something Different - A Mug Rug

Good morning everyone, I hope you are all well and finding somewhere to keep cool.
Today I have something different to share with you. I use to do a lot of sewing but never did any quilting, it's something I've wanted to do but when I looked at all the beautiful quilts I thought that if I started one it would be something put at the back of a cupboard not finished. Earlier in the year I found a book called Animal And Pet Mug Rugs by Amanda Weatherill, they are small quilts for putting mugs on, although I don't think I'd put a mug on it as I could see it getting stained very quickly.

I was very pleased with the result and will be making more, I've also found a book on making small art quilts, now all I have to do is find the time. The mug rug measures about 9.5" x 5", 24.5x13 cms.

Thank you for visiting my blog, you're all very welcome. xxx

Go Flamingo

Marieke Blockland took the first lesson at the Art Journal Summer School 2018, Go Flamingo is the title. I enjoyed this lesson apart from finding out that the journal I'm using doesn't like water colours especially where I've rubbed out part of my drawings and taken the top layer of paper of.

I'm entering my flamingos in the Art Journey Journey Art For Arts Sake challenge hosted by Chris.

I started colouring with watercolour and ended up using coloured pencils.
The quote says
Be a Flamingo, stay balanced, stand by your flock and always be fabulous.

Thank you for dropping by to take a look, enjoy the fabulous weather that we're having and have a good weekend. xxx

Journal Cover

Hi everyone, the first half of the year has gone already and it's now July and time for another challenge at Altered Eclectics, as always the theme is Anything Goes as long as it's Altered Art/Mixed Media, no cards of ATCs are allowed.

I've signed up for the online Art Journal Summer School at the Blocknote Academy, the course starts today and ends in September. For my DT piece I've decorated the front cover of the journal that I will be using for the course.

I decided not to cover the whole of my black journal just the front cover. I masked the edges with masking tape to make a frame. I gave the cover a coat of gesso.

I painted the cover with Fresco Finish pains layering the paints with stencilling and stamping. I wrote the words Art Journal with a black marker and then painted the words with green paint.

I added more paint and stamping until I got a result that I liked. I gave the cover a coat of matte medium. When the medium had dried I used my indian ink pens to make more marks and to add some scribbles.

Thank you for dropping by to take a look, have a lovely day. xxx

I used distress ink to make the grid and stamped the Paperartsy sheep with Archival ink, I coloured the sheep with coloured pencils.

Thank you for dropping by, have a lovely day. xxx

SPA - Birdhouses

Birdhouses are the theme for this weeks Sunday Postcard Art challenge.

I had a look through my stamps to see if I had a birdhouse one and the only one I could find was a small silhouette so I looked through some magazines and found this image of a birdhouse made of books. I cut it out and adhered it to a background that had been stencilled with brushos. I didn't do much to the image just added some pen marks and words. The robin was part of a paper napkin. The flying birds were stamped with a Tim Holtz stamp.

Thank you for taking the time to take a look. xxx

I stamped the Aall & Create scissors and sewing machine with black Archival ink. A few weeks ago I got my sewing machine out to practise some stitches, I added some of my stitched samples together with some buttons to the arch. I added some doodles stitches round the edge.

Butterfly Make and Take

A few weeks ago I went to Ally Pally and did a great make and take with the lovely Tracy Evans using the stamps she designed for AALL & Create. I was really pleased with what I made and decided to turn it into an art journal page.

I'm entering my page in the Art Journal Journey Flora and Fauna challenge.

I made the background the same way as the make and take using gesso, AALL & Create stamps and stencils and distress oxides. I adhered the make and take to some black card and adhered it to the background. I added a couple of stencilled words and word stickers.

This is the make and take that I made.

Thank you for dropping by, have a lovely Sunday. xxx Hazel.
